The Gunners injury woes have continued after it was revealed today that attacking-midfielder Mkhitaryan will be out of action until February with a foot injury.
An update on the club website simply read: “Right foot. Fractured metatarsal. Expected to return to full training in six weeks.”
The ex-Manchester United man has had an indifferent season, with many questioning his consistency, despite featuring in 14 Premier League fixtures.
Mkhitaryan was left out of the Gunners match day squad for Saturday’s 3-1 win over Burnley.
And it appears his omission was due to fracturing his metatarsal, one of the most common foot injuries in football.
It is not clear where the injury stems from specifically, with the Armenia international appearing regularly prior to last weekend.
But Football London journalist Charles Watts believes it dates back to an incident in the north London derby in the Carabao Cup last Wednesday.
He tweeted: “Think the Mkhitaryan injury comes from that incident in the first half against Spurs when he kicked Lucas Moura's foot in the box when trying to take a shot. Looked really painful at the time.”
