Arsenal now favourites to sign experienced £110,000-a-week star

Arsenal are now being deemed as the favourites to secure the addition of a new defender who could strengthen Unai Emery’s squad in the January transfer window.

Saturday’s trip to Liverpool was a horrible reminder of how much quality the Gunners are currently lacking in the defensive department as they were thrashed 5-1 by the league leaders.
According to the Daily Star, Arsenal are now favourites with the bookies to complete the signing of Gary Cahill from Chelsea in the winter transfer window.

The 33-year-old, who is believed to be pocketing £110,000-a-
week wages at the moment, has fallen out of favour at Chelsea this season under new boss Maurizio Sarri.
Aston Villa were claimed to be challenging the Gunners for the services of Cahill but the Championship side have pulled out of the race for the Englishman due to financial concerns.
Cahill, who has made only seven appearances for Chelsea this season, was linked with a move to the Emirates stadium during his days at Bolton.

Emery confirms worrying transfer news for Arsenal on Thursday

Arsenal manager Unai Emery has confirmed some worrying news for Arsenal fans with less than three weeks now left in the January transfer window.   The Arsenal boss managed to sign several players during the summer but most of the deals were for a cheap price, significantly lesser than what rivals Chelsea and Liverpool were paying for their new signings. Club owner Stan Kroenke has been criticised by most fans for refusing to spend enough money when needed in the transfer market. Following the recent 5-1 humiliation away to Liverpool in the Premier League which exposed most of the team’s serious problems, several fans have been calling for signings to be made this month. However, speaking on transfers at his press conference on Thursday morning, Unai Emery revealed that the club is not financially capable of making any permanent purchases of players at the moment. Thus, the Arsenal boss insists that loans deal will be the Gunners’ best bet in the January transfer windo...
