Arsenal are ready to battle Manchester United in the running to sign Hertha midfielder Arne Maier, who has been dubbed the next Toni Kroos.
The two teams have been scouting the teenager extensively this season after the 19-year-old cemented his place in the team’s engine room, not missing a single minute of Bundesliga.
The youngster has also established himself in the Germany under-21 team, and now The Sun claims both Unai Emery and Jose Mourinho are hoping to lure him to the Premier League.
Arne Maier – who averages the most passes of any Hertha player – is widely suggested to be fast-tracked into the senior Germany squad. He could command a fee of as much as £30 million, and Sven Mislintat is likely behind the interest.
Arsenal head of recruitment has already raided Germany several times since starting his role with Arsenal, signing the players from the former club Borussia Dortmund.
Hertha Berlin are enjoying a strong season, sitting in sixth place in the table, and Arne Maier has been key to their success.
Scouts from both Premier League clubs watched him in action at the weekend and are understood to cast their eye over him once again when he takes on rivals Stuttgart next time out
