Ajax chief Marc Overmars thinks the door would be open for Chile international Alexis Sanchez to return to the London-based outfit Arsenal after an unsuccessful spell at Manchester United.
The Chile international forward has struggled to regain his best form at the Theatre of Dreams since leaving the Emirates stadium more than a year ago and the 30-year-old star is set to cut a not happy spell in Manchester short.
Marc, who won the FA Cup and Premier League during a three-year stay at Highbury under French manager Arsene Wenger, has ‘great respect’ for Alexis but believes the player may have been mistaken to ditch Arsenal in favour of a switch to the north of England.
But the de Joden’s director of football believes the door might still be open for the star to make a shock return to north London because the Gunners have failed to replace South American.
‘This type of players were very important for Arsenal, because that’s where they take you to focus, after Alexis, Arsenal tried to sign another player like that, but he was not given, so he could go back to Arsenal.’ – Marc told ADN Deportes.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s Manchester United would no doubt be interested in offloading the Chilean – who is their highest earner. Whether Unai Emery’s side would be willing to welcome Alexis back is another question.
The former Arsenal player finalised a transfer to the Red Devils in 2018, in an exchange deal that saw Armenia international Henrikh Mkhitaryan move the opposite way.
