Chelsea have plenty of talented young players on their books and losing one is no big deal.
However with a transfer ban in place, every squad place is precious, and we have to think very carefully about how we deal with each and every loan player.
Jay Dasilva is a great example. He’s on loan at Bristol City at the moment, and their manager that the team had an option to buy the Blue whenever they want.
They are willing to trigger that clause, so it will all come down to Jay and what he wants to do. If he likes the way things are going, he can make his move there permanent.
At the moment he still hasn’t done that however, showing he’s not certain about his next step. The alternative is returning to Chelsea to presumably be loaned out again, maybe to a bigger club.
Maybe some more strong performances at the ongoing U21 Euros will change things. He could attract attention from bigger teams. It might even be that he’s waiting for a new Chelsea manager to be appointed, just in case it will help his case for minutes here.
