Borussia Dortmund's sporting director has moved swiftly to rule out suggestions that winger Julian Brandt will be departing the Bundesliga outfit for Arsenal during this January window.

Arsenal  were this week linked with a 47.5 million euro transfer for Brandt, but instead Dortmund have denied the reports, insisting no move is on the table for the player. Other clubs, including Barcelona and Lyon have also been linked with a move for the player. Sporting director  Michael Zorc  quipped: "A name is constantly being mentioned that actually doesn't play a role in our deliberations at the moment, that should come to an end. "I can only repeat; there is not even the slightest bit of anything on the table. We can't do anything if rumours are constantly being spread that are not true." The 24-year-old joined Dortmund from Bayer Leverkusen in 2019, and has appeared in 46 games for his club, scoring three goals. Brandt has also appeared 35 times for the German national team, scoring three times.

Arsenal fans have been trying to find a buyer for Shkodran Mustafi after Fenerbahce reportedly stepped away from a transfer. Roma have been linked with a move for the German centre-back, but Sky Sport Italia say that interest has faded after Arsenal set their asking price at around £25m. Turkish Super Lig club Fenerbahce were also believed to have short-listed Mustafi, but after signing Adil Rami on a free transfer they have dropped their interest. Turkish-Football report that “Mustafi was among several defensive targets and that enquries were made to the defender’s representatives and Arsenal”. However, France international Rami has penned a one-year deal with the option to extend by an additional season and that has ended Fener’s interest in Mustafi. £80m transfer would be crucial investment for Arsenal, alarming stats suggest

Arsenal have been strongly linked with a transfer swoop for Wilfried Zaha – and stats suggest he’d be a crucial investment in a key area for Unai Emery’s team. The latest on the  Zaha to Arsenal transfer  saga is that the Gunners are prepared to try an improved second bid for the Ivory Coast international after failing with an opening offer of £40million, according to the  Evening Standard . The report states, however, that Crystal Palace want as much as £80m for their star player, which seems out of Arsenal’s financial reach. Still, it might not be impossible if the north Londoners can sell some under-performing players like Mesut Ozil, Henrikh Mkhitaryan and Alex Iwobi, or perhaps bring Zaha’s fee down by including players in a swap deal.

Palace are sure to reject out of hand the offer for Zaha, with the Eagles valuing the 26-year-old at more like the £80m mark, and their resolve to keep their star man has been heightened further after selling Aaron Wan-Bissaka to Manchester United. Zaha has four years left on the contract he signed last summer when linked with moves to clubs including Tottenham, but it is their north London rivals Arsenal who Zaha wants to join this time around. Zaha's brother Judicael has now spoken out and hopes that Palace will allow him to join the Gunners, but unless the offer goes up, that is highly unlikely. "Wilfried will always hold Crystal Palace and their fans in the highest regard and all the support they have given means the world to him," he said. Arsenal ready to negotiate with Serie A giants over sale of £75,000-a-week star

Arsenal are thinking about selling Lucas Torreira after Serie A side AC Milan lodged their first offer for the star, according to reports. Earlier in June, the Uruguayan sparked talk surrounding his future at the Emirates by admitting that he preferred life in Italy. Lucas impressed in his first campaign with the Gunners after he was purchased in a £26.5 million deal from Sampdoria the previous summer. According to Italy’s media outlet Sport Mediaset, AC Milan have submitted a two-year loan offer for the midfielder worth up to €8 million (£7m) and includes a €38 million (£34m) right-to-buy option that would be paid in one instalment. The report states that Arsenal have responded by telling Rossoneri that they are prepared to negotiate and they would want an obligatory purchase clause as part of the reported deal. Messi is unstoppable, but Brazil can slow him down

Argentina's Lionel Messi Tite believes Lionel Messi is unstoppable, but he hopes Brazil can find a way to slow down the Argentina star in the Copa America semi-finals. Lucas Vazquez would be a good fit for the Gunners

Share The North London giants are working with a reduced transfer budget this summer after failing to secure a return to Champions League football in Emery’s debut season. Arsenal conceded over 50 goals in the Premier League alone in the 2018/19 campaign, so Emery’s emphasis will be on bringing in defensive reinforcements. However, that shouldn’t close the club’s door on signing forwards this summer. While Alexandre Lacazette and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang formed a lethal partnership up front, none of the other attacking players contributed with assists and goals consistently this past term. Alex Iwobi and Henrikh Mkhitaryan had unconvincing campaigns, while Mesut Ozil’s disastrous 2018/19 means Emery is planning to offload him this summer. Share The Gunners clearly need more quality out wide if they are to improve under Emery and Lucas Vazquez would be a fine fit at the Emirates. He possesses blistering pace and incredible dribbling skills, while...

Chelsea agree ban-bypassing €50M transfer, contract to be signed on Saturday

Chelsea have agreed a fee with Real Madrid for the permanent transfer of midfielder Mateo Kovacic, according to Sky Italy’s Gianluca Di Marzio. Kovacic spent the 2018/19 campaign on-loan at Chelsea, failing to find the back of the net during any of his 51 appearances throughout the course of the season. He has polarised opinion among Chelsea fans, with one argument being about his lack of effectivity, the other that he could be worth persevering with. Chelsea appear to hold the latter opinion, with Di Marzio reporting late last night that we have agreed a €50M package to sign him permanently. It’s mentioned in the report that Kovacic will put pen-to-paper on his contract on Saturday, with Chelsea able to bypass the ban to get the deal done. Frank Lampard, should he officially be appointed Chelsea manager, will no doubt be delighted to have a midfielder of Kovacic’s quality in the squad.

Maurizio Sarri felt the time was right to return to Italy after leaving Chelsea following just one season to take charge of Serie A champions juventus.

The Blues agreed a compensation package with the Italian club, understood to be in excess of £5million, for Sarri who signed a three-year deal with Chelsea when appointed last summer. Sarri revealed the opportunity to move back to his homeland was one of the telling factors behind the move. “The Premier League was a great experience, but in the latter half (of the season), I felt professional and personal needs to return to Italy,” Sarri said.

Manchester United have announced midfielder Juan Mata has signed a new two-year contract.

The 31-year-old Spaniard, who moved to Old Trafford from Chelsea in 2014, was scheduled to be out of contract at the end of this month. Mata said: “It is a real honour to continue to represent this amazing club and our incredible fans. I have been at Manchester United for five years and I am proud to call Old Trafford my home. “I am looking forward to working with Ole [Gunnar Solskjaer] and his fantastic coaching staff; the vision that they have for the club is truly exciting and I am so happy that I will be a part of that.”
